The costs of putting off a trip to the dentist

When it comes to taking a trip to the dentist, wisdom teeth removal and other procedures can be just that frightening that it’s easy to find excuses to put them off. “It’s too expensive” some might say. “The pain will go away/ it’s not so bad” is the favourite excuse of others.

But the longer you put a trip to the dentist off, the more damage will be done, and the more expensive and uncomfortable the treatment required can be. Here are just a couple of benefits of going to the dentist regularly and frequently:

    1. They can catch issues early, before they become a major problem

Dentists are trained to observe the early signs of tooth and gum issues and address them before they become major problems. The most obvious example is wisdom teeth – your dentist will identify the need for wisdom teeth removal before they can impact on other teeth, and cause further damage across the mouth.

Another issue that people often overlook is gum health – it’s hard to check this yourself at home, but a dentist is an expert in oral hygiene and will spot issues immediately.

Yet another example is tooth decay. Coming in for a check-up and cleaning means we can detect dental decay early and these teeth can be filled. If left unchecked, the cavity gets deeper and the tooth become painful then you may need root canal treatment and a crown. In extreme cases the tooth may need to come out and be replaced with a dental implant. Putting off routine general dental treatment can mean unnecessary dental bills in the long term.

    1. Dentists can provide advice specific to your needs for good oral health and overall health

If you’re concerned about the cost of a trip to the dentist, or the discomfort that you might experience (for example, you’re concerned about time off work), your dentist will be able to develop a plan of attack with you to address any issues with your teeth and/or gums with minimal disruption to your life. This is better than the alternative, where a major procedure might need to be undertaken immediately, and have you in recovery for an extended period of time.

We will also screen for anything suspicious happening in your mouth and surrounding structures and discuss any concerns you have with function such as speech and chewing or parafunctional habits such as tooth clenching and grinding (bruxism).

In short, there are many medical health problems that manifest in the mouth and teeth so by visiting your friendly Parramatta Dental Studio dentists you can rest assured we will work together with your medical general practitioner to ensure your best health is always in consideration.
