What does root canal therapy cost?

For many people facing a visit to the dentist, one of the biggest concerns that they’ll have is the cost of the procedure. Dental procedures for a majority of the population are not covered under Australia’s public healthcare service, and private healthcare will generally only cover a percentage of the dental treatment related costs.

At Parramatta Dental Studio we will do our best to provide you with as accurate a quotation as possible, so that you have full transparency about the costs involved before the procedure is commenced. This allows you to make decisions about what your next steps are, based on the treatment you require and your financial situation. For some dental problems, it’s a better idea to have a procedure done early, as the problem could get worse with delays, and cost more to address, but you will be able to make this determination in consultation with your dentist.

The pricing of root canal therapy is dependent upon a few factors which will be discussed with you once the dentist has examined your teeth and taken the appropriate x-rays.Some teeth have extensive decay and require larger fillings and a crown and there is variation in tooth anatomy, meaning some teeth have only one single root canal and others can have 3-4 root canals. The approximate cost of root canal treatment will run between $800 and $1,600 based on the following breakdown:

  • Assessment by the dentist which involves an examination and small x-ray
  • Root canal therapy
  • Filling of the tooth after root canal therapy and then possibly a crown on the tooth

These fees will be spread over several appointments, depending on the condition of the tooth and the severity of the infection. Other factors which will affect the cost of the procedure will be discussed with you once the dentist has examined your teeth and taken the appropriate x-rays, and can include:

  • A tooth can have one nerve canal or it can have several and these will need to be cleaned out and filled up individually
  • The size of the decay and the filling required will also impact the fee – some fillings need extra support in the form of pins and posts inside the tooth to hold the filling
  • If a tooth is badly broken down then the dentist may advise that a crown is required to protect the entire tooth from future cracks – this will involve extra appointments and an additional fee

Ultimately, these costs are more than worth it, not just for your dental hygiene, but your general sense of well-being. We can replace teeth but trying to keep your own teeth when possible is a conservative approach where appropriate. If you’re coming to us for a root canal treatment, you’re in a great deal of discomfort. At Parramatta Dental Studio the gentle dentists and caring dental assistants will do their best to get you out of pain on the same day. Any tooth that requires root canal therapy can be very sore and painful making the reason for your dental visit an unpleasant one. Rest assured that your discomfort will start to improve once the root canal therapy has been initiated and medicament has been placed inside the tooth. To find out more, please call us on 9633 9835 and one of the friendly team can be of answer any queries you may have.
